When you first discovered nightshade intolerance, you thought pizza was over. Sure, you could have found a decent, gluten free white pizza, but nothing beats a margarita. The game totally changed for me when I discovered a spicy but nightshade free, tomato free, red sauce.
If you don't know... Nightshades include tomato, potato, eggplant, goji berries, and basically any kind of pepper (bell peppers, jalapeño, etc.) or red spice (paprika, chili power etc.) Nightshade free diets are very common in the AIP community, and has been a huge portion of leaky gut healing.
It’s not to say that all nightshades are bad. However, it’s a very common intolerance, and options are necessary.
Its not just the sauce that is nightshade free. If you’re also gluten free, you’ll be very hard pressed to find a pizza crust that doesn’t have potato starch.
Make a completely grain free, gluten free, and night shade free pizza. Because let’s be honest… pizza just makes life a little richer.
