Some of you may know that we have been naming one of our products Makrut Lime Leaf, which has caused much confusion for our locals in NZ and Australia. I grew up in the Philippines until I was about 8 years old, we called it Makrut Lime and from then on I've always know it as that.
Until recently when trying to promote the Lime seasoning in NZ and Australia only to be constantly asked what is it? I say, have you heard of Kaffir Limes? Yeah, nah, yeah is the response and then why didn't you just call it Kaffir then?
Well my friends, this is explanation... Kafir means (in my world at least) any non Muslim, Kaffir is a derogatory name in South Africa and Makrut... well Makrut means exactly that!
However, due to number of enquiries we are receiving we have made a marketing decision to rename our lime seasoning product to "Kaffir Lime Seasoning"
We hope this doesn't get too many people offside, after all "what's in a name?"
